MOI to Enforce Tracking of Seat Belt and Phone Use Violations in Qatar from Tomorrow. Extensive Awareness Campaign

Leading up to this launch, the MoI has conducted a comprehensive awareness campaign over the past week across various media platforms and social media accounts. The goal was to educate all segments of the community about the importance of adhering to seat belt regulations and refraining from using mobile phones while driving.

Monitoring Violations

As part of the awareness campaign, reported violations were closely monitored, and SMS alerts were sent to violators. No fines were collected during this period, as the primary focus was on raising awareness among drivers regarding these violations.

Compliance with Traffic Laws

Article No. 54 of the traffic law mandates that all motor-vehicle drivers and front-seat passengers must fasten their seat belts in accordance with the specified rules and conditions. Article No. 55 further prohibits the use of mobile phones and other devices while driving, whether handheld or otherwise, and emphasizes the avoidance of distractions such as watching TV in the car.

Acting Director General of Traffic Brigadier Abdulaziz bin Jassim Al-Thani emphasized that the implementation of the unified radar system for monitoring seat belt and mobile phone violations is a testament to MoI’s commitment to enhancing traffic safety. He urged all drivers to fully comply with traffic laws and regulations to safeguard lives and property, stressing that traffic safety is a collective responsibility shared by both official entities and individuals.
