Preliminary statistics for January 2024 indicate a noteworthy 23.8% increase in aircraft movements compared to January 2023. The country recorded a total of 23,994 flight movements in January 2024, showcasing a significant rise from 19,377 in the same period the previous year.

Passenger Traffic and Cargo Growth

Hamad International Airport (HIA) experienced a substantial surge in passenger traffic, witnessing a 27.4% increase from January 2023, totaling 4.5 million visitors. Additionally, air cargo and mail exhibited a significant 19.5% growth in January 2024, reaching 201,500 tonnes compared to 168,862 tonnes in January 2023.

In 2023, Qatar observed a remarkable rise in flight activities, particularly in January, with a 64.4% increase in air passengers, totaling 3,559,063. Aircraft movements also rose by 19.3% annually. However, air cargo and mail experienced a 12.3% decline in 2023 compared to January 2022.

The country’s air passenger traffic has been on a steady growth trajectory in recent years, attributed to the expansion of HIA. The airport’s advanced infrastructure, facilities, and exceptional services have attracted numerous leading international airlines. In 2023 alone, the airport welcomed 44 new airlines, enhancing connectivity to and from Qatar.

Qatar Airways Network Expansion Strategy

The airline recently announced plans to reinstate flight services to Lisbon, Portugal, starting on June 6, operating four weekly flights. Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, has also been added to the 2024 summer schedule, further enhancing Qatar Airways’ network in Central Asia.
